About nowiretransfer
nowiretransfer is a free, account-free web app for moving files and text between any two devices using a 6-character code or a QR scan. It runs entirely in the browser, so a Windows PC, an iPhone, an Android phone, a Mac or a Linux machine can all send and receive the same share.
Why it was built
Sending a file to the device sitting next to you is still oddly painful. AirDrop only works between Apple devices, Bluetooth is slow, USB cables need the right adapter and drivers, and emailing yourself hits a 25 MB wall. Cloud drives work, but they mean an account, a sync client and a permanent copy of a file you only needed for thirty seconds.
nowiretransfer was built to remove all of that. Drop a file, read the code on the other screen, done — nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
What problem it solves
- Cross-platform handoffs between mixed Apple, Android and Windows devices.
- Large media files up to 250 MB each, well beyond email attachment limits.
- Locked-down machines where you cannot install software.
- Temporary sharing: every share expires between one hour and seven days and is then deleted.
